Example #14 ---- New Grid Markers

New Grid Markers Version 3.2.7.23

The 'grid markers' are now enable at all times, (They have been there as a setting for months.)  (You can turn these off by going to settings, but who would want to?) You will see two set's of 'grid markers' A light grid marker on top of the grid and the bold dark grid markers on the bottom.

The 'Grid Markers' will show the following:  0/11/14/14X/34/70 hours so you can see at a glance when, and where a violation will occur, along with the yellow in the grid  indicating a violation. In the Remarks section a description of what the violation will be and how long you have been in violation. The 34 hour grid marker shows when you finished your 34 hour restart.

The "0" hour grid marker indicates the start of the 14 hour clock.

The "11" hour grid marker indicates when the 11 hours of driving time will occur.

The "14" hour grid marker indicates when the 14 hours will occur this includes  all on-duty, driving, and on-duty-not-driving during the past 14 hour period.

The "14X" hour grid marker indicates the new 14 hour stopping point. (extended time gained from excluding a qualifying sleeper berth, and is the new 14th hour stopping point.)

The "70" hour grid marker indicates the time you will reach your 70 hour point in the cycle.  (remember do not break this, or you will not get a 34 hour restart.)

The "34" hour grid marker indicates the time you end your 34 hour restart. You will not have 70 hours.

The top (lighter) hour grid markers are for your past duty cycle.

The bottom (bold) indicate your present cycle.

To use the grid markers simple move your mouse or cursor over the grid from the left to right and the grid markers will also move, showing when a restart occurred, or use them to plan your trip and see exactly  when you will hit the 11 hour, 14 hour rule, If your using the Split sleeper berth it will show you when your new 14X(extention) is. You can now see when your  pressing the 70 hour clock. This trip planning will help you be more aware of how you stand on the New HOS requirements.  As a bonus it will take the guess work out. Below are two days showing the 'Grid Markers'.

Day 1

Day 2

Day 1---- Top (light) grid markers show You start the 14 hour clock at 11:45 AM . Your 14 hour clock is 01:45 hours, you had a qualify sleeper berth from 2:00-7:00 PM that is excluded from the 14 hours. (in effect extending you by 5 hours), your new 14 hour clock is 6:45 AM (Day 2). Your 11 hours of driving is up at 4:00 AM.

Day 2---- The driver went into the sleeper after his 11 hours of driving 4:00 -9:00 AM and spent another 5 hours. when added to the first sleeper berth this equaled 10 hours, thus allowing the driver to restart his 14 hours clock from the end of the qualifying sleeper berth ( This must be the sleeper berth used with the 2nd to equal 10) Note: DDL always does this for you, by picking and using the best combination for the driver. In this example your new 14 hour clock starts at 7:00 PM on Day 1. You new 14 hour stopping point is 9:00 AM your 11 Hours of driving  is 11:00 AM and your new 14X(extender) is 2:00 PM.

OK now that we understand all that, let's see if you can determined  the new 14 clock time after the 2nd sleeper on Day 2.?  Scroll down to see the answer.

Answer: The new 14 hour restart is 09:00 AM after taking the 1st sleeper berth from  4:00-9:00 AM (Day 2) as this is used as your sleeper berth to exclude (extend) from the 14 hours rule.
