Example #5 ---- 14 Hour Rule
14 Hour Rule
AA driver may not drive beyond the 14th hour
after coming on-duty following 10 hours off-duty.
No violation on Day 1. Example # 5 -- Sleeper Berth Provision -- Eight (8) hours BUT LESS THAN 10 hours in the SLEEPER BERTH ONLY, will (MUST) exclude from the 14 hour rule. The 8 hour sleeper from 4:00am to 12:00pm is 8 hours and excludes (extends) from the 14 hour rule. New 14X hours is on the Day 2 at 00:45am, in this case you would break the 11 hour rule before reaching the excluded time. (10:00pm) you would have to take a 2 hour break at 10:00pm. Compliance with the 11-hour and 14-hour rules is recalculated from the end of the first of the two periods used to obtain 10 hours of duty. In this example 12:00pm (noon)
